It all started when…
I am from Hawaiʻi Kai, Oʻahu, so I grew to love everything outdoors from a young age. I became interested in place-based marine science in high school at Punahou School where I volunteered as an outdoor education camp counselor. I studied Environmental and Ocean Sciences and Biology at the University of San Diego. During the summer of 2019, I participated as a summer intern with Mālama Maunalua working primarily to remove invasive algae in Maunalua Bay. Since then, I am working to improve my research skills to continue conservation efforts in restoring native Hawaiian ecosystems.
My research...
I’m interested in the interactions between coral reef ecosystems and invasive alien algae species, specifically how anthropogenic influences affect these interactions. I hope to use my interdisciplinary studies to explore questions relating to restoration of native Hawaiian ecosystems, especially those affected heavily by invasive species presence.
