Undergraduate volunteer researcher
Molly Blackburn is a third-year undergraduate student at Macquarie University working towards a Bachelor of Marine Science. Her particular areas of focus are GIS and coral reefs. With her studies, she hopes to use her GIS skills to apply techniques used in terrestrial conservation and management to the marine environment. For example, Molly is interested in using satellite imagery-based data (e.g., from LANDSAT and other sources) in GIS to improve the surveillance and management of the marine environment (e.g., coral reef bleaching events; marine protected area effectiveness, etc.). Molly enjoys practical fieldwork and has recently volunteered at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science to help with an oyster habitat enhancement project. In addition, Molly is currently working on two projects involving satellite image analyses of coral reefs.
